Dear Sir
I was grossly insulted today by a man said to be a son of Bishop Witeman, of the Methodist Church. I went in to a barber shop for the purpose of haveing my hair cut. He was sitting in the chair being shaved, I steped out a moment & he remarked to the Freedman Barber that if I spoke to him he would kick me. He then drew a knife and hid it under the apron that the Barber had put on him. I went in again & sat down. A moment after he got up & looked at me. I looked at him & he said you d--m rascal dont you look at me. I did not notice it & took the seat. He then placed him-self before me & asked me if I wanted to know what he thought I made no reply. He repeated the question. I told him didnt care to know
