of the white population, & many of the difficulties we meet arise from the low habits, & wretched destitution of those with whom we have to deal. In many cases I am feeding the families whose children are taught in the school. They receive religious, as well as secular instruction. The influence of such a school upon such a class cannot be estimated or represented in a statistical report. In one case at least, I have good hope that it has led to the reformation of an abandoned woman. The attendance is irregular, because these people, badly fed & badly lodged, are frequently sick, and the services of the children are frequently required at home.
