Lieut Geo Shorkley
Dear Sir
Since the refusal of an appropriation for a school house in Cahaba I have turned my attention in another direction and have obtained a grant from the Trustees of a building formerly used as a Male Academy for the year free of charge and with the privilege of either renting or buying at a low rate after that has expired.

It is a petty good hull of a house The glass in the windows and some of the sash being destroyed. I have had it examined by a workman and the amt & cost of necessary fixtures for making it in reasonably good condition for a school estimated [[strikethrough]] viz [[/strikethrough]] and would respectfully & earnestly solicit an appropriation for such purpose. I will give a statement of the necessary repairs & fixtures and the cost of those ascertained

Very Respectfully Aldon Emmons
