Tuscaloosa June 22nd 1867

Major Gen' Swayne,

Sir,
I am teacher of "Christ Church Free School" of this City, and have been, since the first day of April last. I wish to leave here the 10th of July, to take charge of a similar school at Meridian, about to be established there, by the Rev H. C. Harris. I cannot leave here, till I receive the pay for my teaching; as I am entirely destitute of funds; besides, owing, 35$.

Rev'd Dr Easter, owes me for two months' teaching, viz $80, for the months of May, and June, but he is absent, and owing to ill health it is uncertain when he will return. By a letter received from him last week, he sent me word, that you had promised to send me the money. If, under press of other business, you have neglected it, will you do me the favor, to send me the amt for both months, as soon as you receive this? I am a widow, and destitute, and it will put me to very serous inconvenience, as well as militate against the interests of the school at Meridian, if I do not leave here by the 10th. I will send my report, as usual thro Mr Arms.

Very Respectfully,
Ann H Hampton
