I also regret to have to mention the thing to you, but duty to myself & partner Mr Fortman demands it. I think if you will but look at it, you will readily see that, if it is worth $8.00 per day for Hack & Horses that I could not afford to have them out 10 days for $48.00 The loss of the time while they were on the road returning home, was as great to me, as though you were returning with them. I hope you will see this in its true light, & be convinced that I am asking no more than what is just & right & act accordingly, there is as you will discover, by referring to the amt paid & the time the Team was out. Yet $32.00 Thirty two dollars behind. 
I recd today the very sad intelligence of the death of that most estimable Lady Mrs Gen Spencer. She dies of Typhoid fever at Tuskaloosa, I am very sorry for the poor Gen., but doubtless your have learned of it before.
