Dear Sir,
Herewith you will find a letter from a gentleman who is teaching school on my plantation. You will discover from his letter that he is uneducated, but for the present he answers the purpose. During my absence in New York he came up to the plantation at the request of Major Pierce, and the negroes being exceedingly anxious to have a teacher urged him to remain. He is very faithful and the children are improving rapidly
