Your communication of the 13th inst is at hand. Mrs. Hopson claims that she has forwarded to you a school report each month and that the fault lies in the mail. On the 20th of last month I gave Mrs. Hopson a copy of Circular No. 4 dated War Department Bureau R. F. and A. L, Washington D.C. Febr 5.1867 when she promised me that she would furnish me a report of the school each month, which I would forward to you, but I have received no report, notwithstanding I have repeatedly requested it. I have visited the school several times, have strived to work in harmony with the Principal teacher but to a great extent I have failed. On my arrival here many complaints were made to me by both whites and coloreds in reference to the number of hours taught per day and the great number of days lost alltogether In every instance I would take sides with the teachers and endeavor to justify them in the course they were pursuing, with a view to continue a feeling of harmony with the teachers and to establish a degree of popularity for the school. A few weeks since Mrs. Hopson expelled from school two freed children, aged respectively 6 and 8 years old, on account of something that was said by Mrs. [[strikethrough]] Hopson [[/strikethrough]] Heinsen the Lady that is raising said children.
