a school. An effort was made by an agent of your Department I suppose last summer to establish one here, bu meeting violent opposition from a few citizens it was abandoned. Such opposition does not now exist, but on the contrary our best citizens will lend such assistance as may be in their power to the project. A Mr. Holland, a good citizen and loyal man is willing to teach the school, and he will be acceptable to the freedmen; but they will gladly have him or any one your Department may be pleased to assign them. A few of them could pay tuition tho' a majority of them could not, and would appeal to you for aid.
