West Point 7th May 1867

Rev'd C.W. Buckley

Dear Sir
I have heard nothing from you in reply to my letter enclosing account in favor of Abraham Willis (Freedman) made out by and certified to by B. Edmundson teacher and Rev'd Mr. Caldwell pastor as being reasonable necessary and proper. I am satisfied that you are not aware of the wants and necessities of these people.

They work for their daily bread and when they are not paid promptly for their labor there is suffering.

The account sent you in my last letter was handed me to collect for them as a matter of favor and kindness on my part The school is much too large, having about 125 pupils. It should be reduced to at least 75 to do them justice and this number will be sufficient for two teachers They should be required to teach 8 hours in the day under the strictest discipline
