Dear sir we the undersigned citizens of Notasulga in the county of Macon and State of Alabama would respectfully represent that under the Laws of Congress entitling free Colored citizens the rights and benefits of free public schools That we have arranged and employed Mr A J Hudgins, a citizen of this town and a man in whom we could confide the management of our children, believing him to be sufficiently quallified to teach to take charge of our school on the terms prescribed for us. Mr Hudgins has been teaching for five weeks - and to our knowledge has made great progression in his school. When a few days since, he has been ordered to discontinue his school by the Superintendent of Schools Mr Buckly, who assignes no reasons for his discontinuance. You being invested with the controlling power of the state, we appeal to your honor to know why we shall not have the benefit of a school as well as others who are still progressing with there school. We think we have the same right as others. Will your Honour = please inform
