Dear Sir;

We are requested by Maj E. Hollis to write to you in relation to the establishment of a freedman: School in his neighborhood. We take pleasure are in certifying to you that Maj H is a most excellent citizen, and will carry out, in good faith, all that he undertakes, or promises. You can rely upon him.
 
He says that a school of 35 schollars can be organised at once and we are under promise to assist him in procuring a suitable teacher.

He requests that you will write to him at once telling him what sallary you will pay and giving him full direction.

This (Troy) is his Post Office - lives ten miles east of here. He is a Planter & is surrounded by Planters of respectability & intelligence who are all favorable to the School. The school here, taught by a Freedman
