Sir,

I have the honor to inform you that I furnished transportation from this office for Mr. Emmerson Teacher on his way to Mr. Hardees Plantation, he having been referred to this Office by Mr. Hardee.

Mr. Emerson says that the interview with Mr. Hardee was not agreeable to him in this, that he said that he was to go to his plantation, and he expected that what he did would be in his interests &c. Mr. Emerson came to me but I urged him to go.

He returned to Selma last week, reporting to me that it was quite impracticable for him to teach a School on Mr. Hardees Plantation, that the enterprise was not encouraged by Mr. H. in any material way &c, &c.
