Supt. Education &c.
Montgomery, Ala.
Sir:
Enclosed I respectfully forward vouchers for the rent of St. Peter's Chapel (colored) for the purchase of Freedmen's School. Mr. Branch hired the chapel, and holds himself personally responsible for the payment of the rent. As Col. Beecher had not paid these vouchers previously, he declined to do so now until they were properly submitted and approved. I therefore forward them to you, and request that you will give them your early attention as I gave my promise to Mr Taylor. Pastor of the Chapel, that they should be attended to immediately. Mr Saliger's and Lv. Baron's vouchers were paid by Col. Beecher.
If you have blank vouchers, I think it would be well to send me a supply that they may be properly filled out in this office at the close of the month.
