an intelligent lady, a teacher for several years, who may address you, seeking an appointment in a freedman's school.

I inclose a statement of a case, that has recently been brought to my notice, if it is possible for Gen. Swayne or any one else in authority to enforce justice in Alabama, please send this statement to them or him.

Registration is going on now in this county; the planters are very careful not to let the negroes know the appointed days, and in some cases have threatened to break contracts to drive them off the plantation without a cent, if they vote contrary to their own wishes.

Please let me know as soon as possible, what to do about the "Old Academy".

I have now a hundred and twenty five pupils.

Very Respectfully,
Elliot Whipple
