Dear Sir

The bearer Daniel Larkins Freedman is very anxious to visit Montgomery and learn as much as he can Saying that when he sees the great men and hears from them how things are that he will at least be better satisfied. He asked me to give him some paper so he could find the right one to learn it all from Supposing that you may be fully willing not only to answer such enquiries as he may make - but further that you will advise him generally, I have taken the liberty to address this to you. As you will discover he is not very intelligent but what he says to the others here on his return will be believed

Col Connelly was here a few days ago and made a little talk to a few white & cold people together in a very concillatory manner & I think it had a good effect Hope it may have the intended effect on both races If I was not afraid to write I would caution you as to some parties who run with all sides and here I will say to you confidentially that in this locality there is much to fear on that score.
