Tuskegee April 13th 1868

Genl O.L. Sheppard

Dear Sir, 
I wrote to Genl Howard about the first of March in reference to what the Government was due me for Teaching a col'd School at this place  he acknowledged the Receipt of it by saying that he had referred the matter to the commissioner of the State  I learn that you are the commissioner for the State "If" "So" has the matter been referred to you & have you investigated the matter & what is the result  let me hear from you immediately
