Referring to his "report" for March forwarded thru Rev. Mr Alvord, invites the special attention of the Commr. to the items headed "Opposition to the work" and "General remark".  Expresses fears that the Benevolent Asso'ns in the North will not be able to furnish a sufficient number of teachers this year, and earnestly asks what can be done towards the payment of teachers by this Bureau.

Respectfully returned. There is no appropriation for the payment of teachers.
The freedmen must learn that very soon their schools will be dependent upon their own, and local support.
