Sir
Some three weeks since I recd from you a communication proposing to me certain investigation I delayed answering until I could make come enquiries, and after obtaining, all the information I could. I now submit the following.

There are no Schools located of any order in this county for freedmen. During the pleasant seasons of the year there are generally Sabbath Schools for Freedmen but in winter they are discontinued for want of suitable houses.

There are no School Houses for Freedmen in this County During the months of July August & September a Day School at Lineville & Delta would be of advantage. I have talked with the most intelligent colored men. Some think a school could be raised to commence soon while others think July will be soon enough to begin, and 25 or 30 pupils would attend of each place perhaps 40 would attend at Lineville

The Freedmen are very poor, and could not, and do their families justice, pay anything on their tuition

There would be no obsticle [[obstacle]] offered to the education of Freedmen in this county.

I think the population to [[too]] sparce [[sparse]] to maintain night schools.

As to how & what more the Bureau could do for this class I am unable to suggest, more than to say that if we have money to pay, we could get a teacher.

As for how long charitable aid will be needed in this county I am unable to say.

With one or two good crops, the colored man would be able to support & educate his family
