Washington, D.C., May 24th, 1869.

It is the desire of the Commissioner that Superintendents of schools hereafter use great care in preparing and forwarding re reports. Accuracy will be required especially in all statistics. The "Number enrolled per last report," as given from month to month, should be made to correspond with the figures on file in this office. Numbers as presented in narrative statements should also be the same as those given in tabular reports. Correct footings are equally necessary. Inaccuracies in any of these respects will necessitate the immediate returns of reports for correction. Attention is likewise called to note on blank, requiring returns as soon
