Dr. Sir: We, J.M. Barr, A.T. Kendrick and C.J. Long, The Board of Trustees for Township 13 Range 27, have been directed by B.B. Fields Cmd-Supt., to apply to you for assistance in building and procuring a lot to establish a Freedman's School in our township. We propose to locate it in Spring Hill near the centre of the township were the freedmen are very thickly settled and a school is very much needed. For particulars we would refer you to Supt. Fields. We hope you will do all you can for us and give us an early answer as we are anxious to get our school started in Jan. I think if our school was now open we would have properly [[strikethrough]] have [[/strikethrough]] from fifty to one
