Evergreen Ala July 14 1869
Col. Edwin Beacher
Dear Sir. I received Monday the 12th the Blank reports and have hastened to get them filled out, supposing supposing that the ones sent would not answer I hope you will find them correct,
1st We were at some loss as to what answer to give in one or two instances. As " Is rent paid by the Bureau." In as much as none have ever been paid we did not know whether to answer yes or no but in as much as you had promised to pay on these reports we answered Yes. if right let it stand if wrong change it to no.
2 As to the schools the Freedman have promised to support that is to pay the Teacher. Two of them were run as public school but we found we had no money to pay them so if the teachers get any thing it must be from the patrons of the school.
3 I reported in one report all the colored schools in my county that I do not now report to you except one just opening at Evergreen I did not think it necessary to put it in all the reports the Teachers
