Dear Sir:
Your favor of May 26th to hand and contents noted  I return you the blanks, which I hope you will find correct  I am very sorry that I have to close the schools  I fear it will work badly for the cause  It certainly appears to me that there is a screw loose at Montgomery  I accuse no one of dishonesty, but seem to be exceedingly slow  My expenses have been very heavy - some $500.00 and have not realized one cent

The reason I have not been able to make my Reports to you in time is, the Teachers are scattered promiscuously over the county and if I mail the Blanks, it is often three or four weeks before they will go to the office, hence I am compelled to ride the county over to deliver them - often costing me $10.00 per trip  But in order to get rent for the houses and also to do my duty as an officer I incur
