Mr. R.D. Harper
Dear Sir,

[[stamp]] The National Archives of the United States [[\stamp]]

I have opened the Schools here for the Freedmen and we want $30,00 per month to pay for rent of buildings, & $100.00 cash now to fit up the houses with benches, seats &c. I wrote to Mr. Wilson at Demopolis about it some time ago but he has not answered me. Please let me know if any aid can be had from the Bureau, schools cannot be run unless we can get money from Somewhere. Will the Aid Societies help any, in paying the Salaries of teachers? Please let me hear from you as early as convenient, as I am much perplexed in this business.
Respectfully
M. H. Yerby
Supt. Ed. Hale Co.
