Macon Station May 6th 1870
Col Edwin Beecher
Montgomery Ala

Sir
Yours of the 4th inst is to hand and I hasten to reply the materials of which the building is constructed is cedar logs hewen on the inside the dimensions are 18x16 jt. clean inside height of wall 12 jt estimated value about $2.00 value of land $25.50 per acre and is owned for this year Emanuel Harris who has only rented the for this year himself.

To make this plain to you I will state that renting law here is very common so that a person who holds a place one year may not ever hold it another as is the case with this place I am teaching one last year I rented the house from J.S. McBae who in consequence of being embaresed. The place was sold at public outcry this year I rented the same house from E. Harris who works the land for one year but since that time through the influence of some of my northern friends living here I have agreed for the place (160 acres) at the price above stated so that have it year. if I should teach school I will not have to rent of any person. therefore you will perceive that I am the real owner of the place as I hold A bond for title duly recorded in the office of the Probate Judge of Hale Co. two weeks ago. although E Harris holds possession untill 1st January 1871 hoping this will prove satisfactory I remain very Respectfully
Patrick Dalton
