This agreement made this 3rd day of July A.D 1869, between Henry Coles of Jackson County and State of Alabama of the first part, and Edwin Beecher Superintendent of the Bureau R F & A L, for the State of Alabama of the second part.

Witnesseth: That the said party of the first part for the consideration hereinafter named agrees to furnish all material and construct a building for a freedmens school house on a lot in Averyville, Jackson County Alabama, and to be of the following dimensions Viz 40 feet long 20 feet wide and 13 feet high in the clear average  To contain 3 doors and 8 Windows, 3 Rooms. the building to be frame, the materials to be suitable and all labor to be performed in a good and workmanlike manner, All of which is more particularly described in specifications furnished to said party of the first part.

In consideration whereof the said first party is to receive the sum of Seven hundred and fifty Dollars as follows. Five hundred to be paid by the said Bureau R F & A L and the remainder of said sum of Seven hundred and fifty dollars is to be paid by the freedmen of Averyville and vicinity, and for said last amount the Bureau is not to be responsible.
