Jaime Davidovich

Statement

During my residency I worked on the 91st floor regularly very early in the morning like 6AM and video the views with the nite mist and the pre-wake up city .I will come back later on the afternoon and video the sunset.I was interested in capturing in real time the passing of time from this "mile high" perspective. The 'raw" images were later on catalogue and archive for on site pieces. The event of 9/11 have dramatically altered the context and the meaning of my project. The landscapes I videotaped now exist in my memory, and are full of anger, sadness and a range of other complex emotions.

My work deals with scale, juxtapositions, metaphors and real time. The WTC was a place where all the elements of my work found a common ground. My videos of sunrise and sunset from this "Mile High" view are now my past-time and my memory is my "real time".
