To whom it might concern

I am writing this letter to enthusiastically recommend Jaime Davidovich for a 2006 Guggenheim video art grant.

I know Jaime Davidovich since the early 80's. I was the curator of video for the 17th Biennial de Sao Paulo in 1983. I invited him to participate because he was one of the pioneers of creating art for cable television. His Live Show from 1978 to 1984 was a model for many cable television shows.

His work on video started in 1970. His first period was a continuation of his "adhesive tape projects". He covered with tape TV monitors in single and multiple channel pieces. Since those years to the current work, Jaime Davidovich has demonstrated a perceptive eye for creating strong work using new visual ideas. His work is slowly being recognized around the world. As a matter of fact he has been invited to participate in a major Video survey show "25 years of Video" I am curating for the Museo Nacional Centre de Arte Reina Sofia in Madrid.

The project Jaime Davidovich is proposing for the Guggenheim grant follows his constant search for new ideas in conceptual video art. His experience as an artist in residence at the WTC was of great value and inspiration for the proposal.

"Rewind and Stop" uses the residence at the WTC as a starting point for the development of a new installation using the footage shot in the later part of the year 2000.

Jaime Davidovich creative contribution and commitment to video art is well documented.

This grant will surely give him the validation and support.

I wholeheartedly recommend him

Sincerely
