INTERIOR

color videotape, 32 minutes, silent, produced at Synapse Studio, Syracuse University under the Artists Visitation Program 1976.

This piece involves the transformation of one surface into another. A full size hand carefully and slowly applies strips of tape over an image of part of a room. The tape is keyed with the image of another part of the same room and so a new surface covers the previous one to reveal itself. Almost magically what appears to be a two-dimensional activity becomes three-dimensional. The hand is disjunctive with the surfaces it creates and yet it is the hand that creates subtle changes of color, texture and scale and builds the structure of the piece.
