Dear Mel:

Greetings from the land of still-melting snow! I hear it was in the 90s in Texas this weekend -- bah, humbug.

I'm writing to let you know that I will be organizing a big group show of Texas artists' work for September/October '87 at the Aspen Art Museum. Our space can accommodate 30-40 artists, and I am tentatively thinking of 1-3 works per person, depending on scale.

I would very much like to consider your work for inclusion.
I am planning to do studio visits throughout the state in early May, but because I don't have enough spare time to do visits with all the artists under consideration (more than 75), I am asking about half of the group to submit up to 10 slides of recent work. You are at no disadvantage in the decision-making process because your work will be judged by slides -- I felt that because your work translates well into slides and because I am pretty familiar with it, this would be the only way I could manage considering such a large group. I will miss seeing you, though. Hopefully, next time I get to Austin we can get together.

If you are interested in being considered, please send the slides to me in Aspen by May 15. I should be able to get back to everyone under consideration with my decisions by June 15. I'll have info then on transportation, possible publication, etc.

Many thanks for the time and energy you'll be putting into this project. And best wishes for a gorgeous spring!

Warm regards,
