El Organismo de Promoción Internacional de Cultura de la Secretaría de Relaciones Exteriores, se satisface en presentar la Exposición del pintor Mel Casas como una de las realizaciones concretas del Instituto Mexicano-Americano de Intercambio Cultural en San Antonio, Texas. Dentro de las presentaciones planeadas para el futuro, hemos creído que si bien nuestra tarea habitual es proyectar en la Mexican Art Gallery la obra artística que se está realizando en México, es conveniente que una o dos veces al año, en este recinto se reciba la obra de artistas huéspedes, ya sea residentes en los Estados Unidos o procedentes de otras culturas. Dentro de este propósito, la exposición del pintor Mel Casas es excelente y muy adecuada para esta primera diversificación de nuestras presentaciones artísticas; su presencia es una especie de puente entre lo totalmente extranjero y lo absolutamente nuestro. Se trata de un artista de nacionalidad norteamericana y de origen mexicano. Su formación artística se realiza en este país, pero sus influencias emocionales y los reflejos de tradición que he recibido a través de sus padres, le vinculan a México. Por lo tanto, nos complace dar la bienvenida a este pintor, cuya obra está concebida fundamentalmente dentro de la tendencia abstracta, circunstancia que no analiza OPIC, porque para proyectar lo mexicano, y más aún para recibir al huésped, no tiene exclusividad de tendencia estética ni condición de escuelas, matices, o compromisos que sean preferentes o inadmisible en la promoción de las galerías oficiales que OPIC dirige en San Antonio. La calidad artística será la única norma que rija la presentación de valores aquí; cualquier otro factor determinante sería ajeno a sus legítimos propósitos de amistad y propagación. The International Organization of Cultural Promotion of the Secretary for Foreign Relations, is pleased to present the exhibition of the artist Mel Casas, as one of the concrete realizations of the Mexican-American Institute of Cultural Interchange in San Antonio, Texas. Having in mind presentations planned for the future, we believe that although our constant activity is to show in the Mexican Art Gallery the artistic work that is being produced in Mexico, it is desirable to receive once or twice a year in this location the works of guest artists either residing in the United States or deriving from other cultures. For this purpose the exhibition of the artist Mel Casas is excellent and perfect adequate for this, our first variation in our artistic presentations. His presence represents a bridge between the completely alien and that which is totally Mexican. He is an artist of American nationality and of Mexican origin. His artistic formation came about in the United States, but his emotional influences and shades of tradition that he has received from his parents relates him to Mexico. For this reason we are happy to welcome this artist. His work is conceived mainly from abstract tendencies, a fact which is not taken into account as an influence toward our showing it, since OPIC (Organismo de Promoción Internacional de Cultura) in order to exhibit what is Mexican, and even more so when receiving a guest artist, in the promotions of the official galleries directed by it in San Antonio, does not have exclusive aesthetic tendencies, nor conditions of schooling and color, nor requirements that are preferred or unacceptable. Artistic quality is the only standard that governs the presentation of works here, and any other determining fact is considered contrary to its legitimate purpose of friendship and dissemination.
