"The Latin American Spirit
First retrospective of 20th century Latin American artists
comes to the El Paso Museum of Art"

"The Latin American Spirit: Art and Artists in the United States, 1920-1970," the first critical presentation of 20th century Latin American artists as a group, will be on view at the El Paso Museum of Art from March 5 to April 23, 1989. The exhibition, sponsored by Philip Morris Companies Inc., was organized by The Bronx Museum of the Arts in New York.

Through a chronological, scholarly approach, "The Latin American Spirit" examines a nearly forgotten chapter of American art history -- the contributions and participation of generations of Latin American artists in every significant art movement of this century. Only Latin artists whose activities have been conducted in the United States are included.
