Featured in the exhibition are more than 160 paintings, sculptures and works on paper by 118 artists from 14 Spanish and Portuguese speaking countries of Central America, South America and the Carribean, as well as the United States and the commonwealth of Puerto Rico.

"With the exceptions of Diego Rivera and Jose Clemente Orozco, who worked in the United States in the 1930's, a great majority of the early Latin American artists have never received appropriate review and critical analysis," said Luis Cancel, executive director of The Bronx Museum, and coordinator of the project. "This exhibition allows us to bring to mainstream public attention the most significant Latin American artisits who have been active, yet often overlooked, contributors to every major art movement of this century."

The El Paso Museum of Art will host a series of recognized scholars, critics, and artists. In addition, the museum will present a film series that will premier works from Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Cuba, and the United States. The film series has been curated by Eduardo Diaz, director of the Cultural Arts Council, El Paso, Texas. For more information on these and other special programs, please contact the museum.

The exhibition will continue on a tour that will include The San Diego Museum of Art (May 22-July 16, 1989), The Institute of Puerto Rican Culture in San Juan, (August 14-October 8, 1989), and The Center for the Arts in Vero Beach, Florida, (January 28-March31, 1990).
