Presentación El lenguaje plástico ha sido para las comunidades de origen mexicanos en los Estados Unidos un medio privilegiado para expresar sus valores, sus luchas y sus anhelos. Por ello esta Exposición se inagura con motivo del reconocimiento que el Gobierno de México hará, por vez primera, a distinguidos mexicano-norteamericanos. César Chávez, Américo Paredes y Julián Samora reciben hoy la condecoración "Aguila Azteca" por su meritoria labor en defensa de nuestra cultura y de los derechos the miles de compatriotas en los Estados Unidos de América. Las pinturas y esculturas que integran la exposición se han reunido gracias a la colaboración del instituto Cultural Mexicano en San Antonio, de la Dirección General de Asuntos Culturales y del Programa para las Comunidades Mexcianas en el Extranjero de la Secretaria de Relaciones Exteriores, así como del Consejo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes, a traves del instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes y del Museo de Arte "Alvar y Carmen T. de Carrillo Gil". Agradecemos su apoyo a la Galería Jansen-Pérez Inc. de la ciudad de San Antonio y a los artistas que generosamente han prestado su obra. El esfuerzo conjunto de estas institituciones reconoce el trabajo que quienes has sido pioneros en impulsar el diálogo y el intercambio entre artistas plásticos mexicanos en ambos lados de la frontera norte. Pretendo, por tanto, animar la relación artística de los paises y crear una atmósfera de mayor entendimiento entre nuestras comunidades. México, D.F. 12 de Noviembre 1990 [[-4-]] Presentation The Mexican-American communities in the United States have used the visual arts as a conduit to express their values, struggles and desires. Therefore, the opening of this exhibition will coincide with the recognition, for the first time ever, of distinguished Mexican-Americans by the Mexican Government. Cesar Chavez, Americo Paredes and Julian Samora will receive the Order of the "Aztec Eagle" for their meritorious work in support of our culture and the rights of thousands of fellow country in the United States. The paintings and sculptures included in the exhibition were brought together through the collaboration of the Mexican Cultural Institute in San Antonio, the Cultural Affairs office, the Program for Mexican Communities Abroad, of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Council of Culture and the Arts, the National Institute of Fine Arts and the Alvar y Carmen T. Carrillo Gil Museum. We would like to ex-press our thanks to the Jansen-Perez Gallery of San Antonio and to the artists who have generously lent their work. The joint effort by these institutions is an acknowledgement of the pioneering work carried out by those who have pushed for a dialogue and an exchange between Mex-ican artists from both Mexico and the United States. Furthermore, the exhibition aims to encourage the artistic relationship between the two countries and create an at-mosphere of increased understanding between our communities.
