'Moses Rose vs. Texas' to help fund public radio

The Public Defender of Texas Public Radio and Bank One San Antonio teamed up Thursday to launch a unique fund-raising event Sept. 5 in the bank's lobby.
Bank One president and CEO Jim Hamilton presented Texas Public Radio board president Richard Villasana with a check for $5,000 at a luncheon in the San Antonio Club.
The money will be used to underwrite the event, a cocktail buffet and mock trial of Louis "Moses" Rose vs. the state of Texas.
According to legend, Rose was one of the original defenders of the Alamo, but he left the fort prior to the fatal battle on March 6, 1836. In the mock trial, assistant criminal district attorney Philip Kazen will play Rose, who is suing for denial of veteran's benefits.
Gerald Goldstein and Pat Maloney will act as attorneys for the plantiff. Sam Milsap and Lisa Vance will be cast as representatives for the state.
Attorney Peter Koelling conceived the idea for the mock trial as a novel opportunity for the Public Defenders to raise money for public radio stations KPAC/KSTX. Public Defenders is a support group comprised exclusively of local attorneys.
Other cast members will include Judge Bonnie Reed, Henry Guerra, Ramiro Cavazos and 57th District Judge Charles Gonzalez.
