Naul Ojeda became a resident of Washington, DC in the late 70s and was rediscovered by Franz Bader, an immigrant from Austria, renowned gallery owner, art authority and generous and affectional soul. Within two years of his arrival in Washington, still deeply affected by the immigrant's depression of displacement, the lack of English fluency, and the melancholy of longing for the colors and forms he left behind, Ojeda saw the light of dawn on the horizon - he saw his name in the Washington Post and a very favorable review of his work. Twenty five years have passed and this immigrant, today a U.S. citizen, is recognized in the city, nationally and in the hemisphere as a visual poet who brings to life lyrical images hidden in a piece of wood or linoleum, a canvas or whatever his chosen medium - images that draw on, respect, and honor the immigrant experience.
