and so had a general view from the water - it was very pretty but nothing to compare to the Worlds Fair- Of course you know the Paris Show is so scattered it would be impossible to get the Chicago effects- Well! we went to the end and then got off and found ourselves right near the "Palais de l'Optique" where the gold statue is so of course we had to go in- We were charged 30 cents to get in and when we got in we found we had to see everything in the building with guides and each thing in it's turn we asked about the gold statue and they said it was the last thing to be shown - we did not want to see the other things but we had to- to be sure some of the things were very interesting- well at last we came to the statue and my heart sank as I knew it would - it is placed in a large circular room (in the center) and the light comes from a very high dome - the entire room is painted yellow, the worst color possible for the figure. Then to make it as bad as possible they have put large placards all around the pedestal telling all about it- it says that I was paid six thousand dollars for the work and that Maude Adams was paid twelve thousand dollars for posing and on the back of the photograph they sell is written- "Dress designed by The Standard Fashion Co.
