crowded. The first evening we went down the river on one of the little boats to the Exposition and so had a general view from the water. It was very pretty but nothing to compare to the World's Fair. of course you know the Paris show is so scattered it would be impossible to get the Chicago effects. Well we went to the end and then got off and found ourselves night near the "Palais de l'Optique" where the gold statue is, so of course we had to go in. We were charged 30 cents to get in and when we got in we found we had to see every thing in the building with guides and each thing in its turn. We asked about the gold statue and they said it was the last thing to be shown. We did not want to see the other things but we had to. To be sure, some of the things were very interesting.
