October 3, Wednesday

Mamma dearest,
 We received a letter from you this morning.  The first one and we were [[underline]] so happy [[underline]] to receive it - it seems so long since we left home.  I hope you are as cheerful as your letter sounds and that you did go to ride with Mrs. King.  Do everything you can to have a good time. 
  We did not get up until noon today as usual.  We are going to try to reform tomorrow and get up earlier.  We were through with breakfast about one P.M. and we went to bed about nine o'clock last night.  That's taking it easy, isn't it?  After breakfast Bonny went for the mail and I cleaned up our rooms and straightened out things, then we went to the Art Palace and
