Mamma dearest
I hope you received my first letter without too much delay and that you did not worry for having to wait. so long I suppose you read that stupid thing in the paper about our boat having had a narrow escape from running into another boat in the fog. 
I suppose some passengers told that tale. we did pass a boat but it was a good long way off and thus was no danger of our running into it. I suppose you read that and it worried you but I hope not.
We have been scouring the town hunting for a little apartment such as we want and it is a very difficult thing to find. we have found one that
