August 3rd.

Mamma dearest

I am afraid I delayed the last letter I wrote you while I was in Paris as I carried it down here by mistake. It was in my bag and I forgot to mail it. We have been here now three days and I have spent most of the time sleeping as it is so quiet and I needed a good rest. We went to Fontainebleau one day as Bonny had to see the lawyer. Of course he has lost his case in regard to the appartment [[apartment]] in Paris and has to pay the rent for the entire time as they say the Americans can afford it. The one advantage is that the French money has gone down so much - we can buy 17 1/2 francs for a dollar now so it is not as bad as it might be. In regard to the place here one of the owners has given Bonny notice to get out by next spring and that spoils the peace for us, as I guess the end will be that we will give it all up, I will save whatever I can to bring home. We have also given up the idea of getting even the little studio we thought of taking in Paris
