because the runs are broader (the New England trails are too narrow and icy) [[strikethrough]] a [[/strikethrough]] the snow is usually better and the place is less infested by weekenders who are a horrible menace and ski in an uncontrolled way -

- Actually Aspen, Sun Valley and Alta are much much better than Tremblant because they are higher - Aspen has the longest chair lift in the world - the mountain is really rugged - Alta Utah is considered by professionals [[strikethrough]] the best [[/strikethrough]] to have the best snow - very deep snow very steep hills - but they have many avalanches there and very poor accommodations - well that is enough about skiing for the moment - except that it would be nice if somehow next winter we could all ski together somewhere - oh yes one more thing about skiing - In northern Michigan - 4 1/2 hours away there is a ski resort - Otsego Ski Club - a very good club house which is very good - the hills are not good enough and they only have rope toes [[tows]] which are an invention of the devil calculated to take arms out of sockets - but 20 minutes away there is a mountain called Boyne Mountain where the have a chair lift (the old chair lift from Mt. Baldi the beginners mountain at Sun Valley) which if the snow is good is really a very good [[strikethrough]] pla [[/strikethrough]] local place to ski- now that is enough about skiing and about your mother's and my travel plans. --Our apartment is still somewhat [[strikethrough]] in [[/strikethrough]] unsettled -- the work room + the two bed rooms - that you two will have if you come out before we move into the big house are being painted and the carpenter is working - (there was a crisis when the painter and carpenter got in each others hair) and have almost finished - Alines desk is lost or rather delayed somewhere in a freight car somewhere - and everything your mother needs seems to have been packed in that desk - Someday the desk will show up - I suppose - there are still balloons popping out here and there but they don't come out of our ears any more - thank God! - Now the plane seems to be ready to land - I will send you the drawing of the Alabama house later. So long Eero

Transcription Notes:
One word that is difficult to decipher (looks like it spells out [[indis?]]). Can anyone else attempt to decipher before review? it's "crisis" I think dale ---------- Reopened for Editing 2023-03-24 16:49:38 This was a house for Dr Alston Callahan, never built. Does the Smithsonian have the drawing Eero sent with the letter? This would be important for the ES archives. ---------- Reopened for Editing 2023-03-24 17:14:46
