Dear Giedion:

Thank you for your letter of October 17th with the enclosed outline.

I am enthusiastic about the possibilities of such an exhibition. I shall send you my comments on the outline after I have had a chance to really digest it. Now I am sending you some estimates on what such an exhibition might cost. Most of this is guess work based on too many unknowns, but it seems to me such an exhibition is only worth while if it becomes the very best. As we say here, "the best God damn exhibition on architecture in the world". So, for this reason and also because you intimated between the lines that we should not be modest in our request, I may have arrived at a rather larger overall sum.

I am not clear to excactly what degree you want the committee to get involved, etc., and I had, therefore, to make many many assumptions. I have figured (guessed) the cost in two different ways, both of which I am sending. I hope this will be of some help to you. I have assumed that the size should be 10,000 sq. ft. but it may be that this is too large. 8,000 sq. ft. would be one of the upper floors of the Museum of Modern Art and this seems large enough.

Well, here are my estimates, and remember that they are based on guesses only.
