NORMAN PARISH

"I work in oils on canvas and paint recognizable stylized subject matter. I call it 'Stylized Realism'. For the past 30 years, I have developed a style of painting that ranges from recognizable subject matter to abstractions concentrating on color harmonies. I am a graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and studied under such established painters as Constantine Pougialis, Paul Wieghardt and Leroy Neiman. My work varies in subject matter as well as moods. My paintings may begin with an idea or a special feeling that is translated on canvas in sometimes bold brush strokes or soft color impressions that turn the picture plane into an enjoyable visual experience of color, line and form. At present the typical subject matter of my paintings is taken from rural panoramas without emphasis on detail in soft vibrant pastel color."
