REFLECTION OF AFRICAN COSMOLOGY IN MY LANDSAPES

The role of arts in African society is an important one for all who are concerned with the advancement of African culture, African thought and the African personality.

No human society can exist without some form of views of the world in which it lives. all the senses of perception hearing, seeing, feeling, tasting and smelling are open gates for humans awareness of man's own existence and that of the world.

The most fundamental assumption in African cosmology is that the universe was created by god, because this is a created universe, it is a religious universe. African people look upon the world as a religious universe, to live in which is also a religious experience. This outlook upon the universe as being religious, shows itself in African attitude towards nature and the specifically religious activities that carry-out without drawing a dichotomy between the so-called "secular" and "sacred", or "physical" and "spiritual".

While the universe is essentially one, people conceive of it as the form of the earthly and the heavenly or the terms of the visible and invisible.

The heavenly universe is the home of god. For the reason he is called the "Owner of SKY or Heaven's". The heavenly world has the Sky, Stars, Sun, Moon, and other physical bodies, it also has spiritual being, some of whom are thought to be in charge of different departments of the universe, and others to be messengers of God. Thus, the heavenly world is not empty, it is populated with its own life. Some of this life is simply personification of the heavenly objects and phenomena.

The earthly world is pictured and treated virtually, the earth is the home of man who is the center of the universe. It is from the earth that man awakens the universe, speaks to it and depicts it in art form because African traditional religion is inseparable from African traditional art.

MAN AND HIS ENVIRONMENT

African myths of creation put man at the center of the universe. This is almost to be expected because, since God is the creator and sustainer of the universe, he must be beyond and outside of the universe both in status and being. On the other had, man is created, lives in the world and is part of the world . Man awakens the universe, communes with it, depicts it in paintings, and links mystically the heavens and the earth. Its is as if the entire universe was created or exists for the sake of man.
