The Black Academy of Arts and Letters, composed of fifty-eight blacks eminent in art, literature, the performing arts, and the social sciences, are only too aware of the need to encourage and recognize today's aspiring black artists and scholars. An awards program for black achievement in arts and letters, will of itself provide considerable encouragement to black artists of all ages. Black artists and scholars will know that there is an organization of peers who will evaluate their achievement and substantiate their excellence without cultural bias.
