The Poetry awards went to Mari Evans; the schlarly [[scholarly]] award to Franklin Knight, the non fiction award to George Jackson.

Mr. Williams then discussed the questionnaires on publishing and literary practices. He noted 21 responses for what is expected to be the basis for the Academy's handbook for young writers. There was some discussion from the floor on categoreis [[categories]] not considered, i.e.plays and after this interchange, it was suggested that establihsing [[establishing]] a committee to deal with questions on Performing arts would be desirable. The question of accepting the nominations in the Book Committee report was still on the floor, the report was accepted by voice vote. Dr.Lincoln then took the floor and called for Dr. Hill to give her Awards committee report. Having just come in she asked for a little more time. Dr. Lincoln then called Dr. Poussaint for a report of the internal fund raising committee. Before beginning his report, Dr. Poussaint raised the question of the protocol of changing the place on the agenda of the nominations to fill board places. Dr. Poussaint indicated that some fellows may have been late,with the idea that the item was to come in to the meeting at a later hour. They had then missed their chance to make a floor nomination, for the board. After considerable discussion, the matter was moved to be reconsidered and the item placed back on the agenda in the later position. Upon receiving information from the Executive Director to the effect that the by-laws called for voting by secret ballot...it was read into the record that "at all meetings except the election of officers and directors, all votes shall be by voice vote."

Dr. Pouissant then continued with the report of the internal fund raising committee. The committee had been establied [[established]] in 1970 to determine ways and means of generating academy financial support from within the membership, particularly for operating costs.
