in advance and distributed to each fellow. THE MEMbers of his committee met March 21, 1971, in New York City, The agreed to proposed the following: 

1; The Black Academy sponsor a contest for artists, writers, filmakers [[filmmakers]] and scholars. A national competition in each of these four areas. The best entries  in the area of Art should be displayed a t the annual meeting. An annual Black film festival should be held in connection with the annual meeting and the best entries of black film shown. 
(2 The Academy will create the machinery and make awards to promising writers. 
3) The academy will identify and publicize exising [[existing]] cultural resources in the black community; will develop and maintain a contemporary listing of black and black oriented cultural organizations . 
(4) The Academy will recognize the need for the coordination of resources on archival material relating to the Black experience and will offer its support and guidance to these projects. 
5) The Academy will assume the role of coordinator and mediator in the field of art and letters. The Academy could convene national conferences to bring together arts,writers,educators,etc.,with different points of view; a conference to coordinate and bring into focus the various caucuses in scholarly and literary fields. The Black Academy could provide focus and location for these groups to come together. 
6) The Academy would provide the location and focus for coordination of activities and planning in the   field of higher education.
7) At the annual meeting, the academy should seek four or five well prepared papers on a formal focused theme for the annual meeting, which would be organized around this theme. Two possible topics could be The Black Esthetic and Art and Liberation. A major purpose of the Annual meeting should be to Assess the State of Black Art and Letters.
8) In addition to the Annual meeting, the Black Academy should undertake to organize regional meetings to be held at intervals throughout the year in the regions of the country, under the auspices of the Black Academy cooperating with the local arts groups, etc.
