Mr. Bennett, indicated this as an oversight and accepted the insertion.  Dr. Quarles suggested that he did not know whether we were ready for it or not, but that he felt an exploratory converence [[convergence]] on possible liasons [[liaisons]] with other national or international groups interested in the arts,other than ourselves would be valuable.  Mr. Bennett responded that he thought it urgent that we get our own house in order before establishing relationships with other groups.  Mr. Bennet [[Bennett]] reiterated the need for the Black Academy to establish some priorities in the face of its energy and limited resources.  It was moved and passed the the Bennett report be accepted and approved.

The President then announced that Clayton Riley, of the New York Times, would be present at the dinner that evening to discuss Sweet Sweetback.  There was considerable discussion pro and con regarding the invitation to Mr. Riley and the desirablity [[desirability]] of the BAAL to discuss this work.  After much heated discussion it was agreed that a panel of Academy fellows, including Mr. Bennett and Mr. Charles White would discuss the film with Riley at the dinner.  Riley is also a teacher of English at Sarah Lawrence College.  The meeting adjourned for Lunch.  Upon the resumption after 2;p.m. Dr. Lincoln introduced Mrs Ruby Dee Davis, a new fellow to the group and thanked her and Mrs Belafonte for their efforts in behalf of the Awards dinner, which they are co-chairing   Dr. Poussaint then gave the financial report.  Mr. Poussaint'r [[Poussaint's]] report was in a separate sheet handed to the members.  He broke it down to income and outgo and reminded the membership that the last fifty thousand of the twentieth Centruy [[Century]] grant would be paid in 1972.  And we needed to raise at least that much if we were going to continue to operate.  The treasurers report was accepted. 

The President then gave his State of the Black Academy message, and the Exec. Diregtors [[Directors]] report regarding the progress, problems and operations of the Academy office.  It was again pointed out that if by this time next year we have not raised a substantial sum money we will be at a very critical point. 

The issue of the Nigerian Arts Festival in 1974 was brought up and discussed in the terms of possible roles the BAAL could play.  The new Board members were elected in their proper sequence through the casting of secret ballots   The new fellows were adopted without any nominations from the floor, The slate was accepted. 19 Yes and two spoiled ballots.
