She informed me on my asking her if she knew who painted it that it was by Elliott-  She said Mr Elliott had frequently seen it at her house. and said that altho he did not remember painting it- He was not only not ashamed of it. but perfectly willing to father it as his
The lady was not entirely convinced that it was otherwise When I told her I painted it- Indeed I think never was. Tho I showed her the name plate. Very small & printed on the righthand corner. Did not wish to be perhaps.
I recalled to her recollection many remarks of Mrs Jervis to these facts
