Dear Romey:

I had a letter from Carl Van Vechten today and this is what he had to say about your exhibition:

"I saw Romare's Show yesterday and it is gorgeous. I spent quite a lot of time going over the glowing canvases. At present he seems to be the Negro Rouault. In any case I dote on him and think his only sepia rival is Jacob Lawrence. But the way he is going he should have very few rivals anywhere soon."
